Abstract
This paper presents sedimentary facies and evolution of the Song Hong (Red River) delta mainly based on analyses of the CC core taken from the present delta plain. The core sediments are classified into four units based on color, grainsize, and sedimentary structures. Radiocarbon ages suggest that the sediments were accumulated after about 8.2 kyr BP. Delta initiation probably occurred between about 8 and 6 kyr BP when sea-level rise has still continued. Aggradation was dominant and active progradation was limited between about 8 and 6 kyr BP because of sea-level rise.
