Abstract
In this study, we objectively identified two rainfall conditions associated with shallow landslide initiation in Japan using Soil Water Index: short-duration - high-intensity (SH) type, and long-duration - low-intensity (LL) type.
We verified these two conditions by analyzing the rainfall-induced shallow landslide disasters in 2009, for which we succeeded in predicting a landslide. The result is important for shallow landslide disaster warnings in Japan.
