Abstract

We obtained C-14 dates on beach ridge deposits on Rarotonga and on emerged corals on Mangaia, Cook Islands, South Pacific. Those dates show that beach ridge plain began to form at 3,500 – 4,000 BP on Rarotonga, and a sea level at ca. 5,600 – 5,700 BP shortly before the age of the highest sea level occurred at 0.65 m above present mean sea level on Mangaia.
