Holocene marine terraces are widely distributed around the northern part of Kagoshima Bay, consisting of Aira caldera. In this paper, we examine the relation of the highest marine terrace, called Hayato surface to Holocene upwarping of Aira caldera on the basis of the altitude distribution, the deposits and the ages of the formation using tephra, C-14 dates and archaeological remains. The altitude distribution of Hayato surface fairly matches the mode of upwarping of Aira caldera deduced from the past sea-level remnants.

Anomalous climate around Japan shows complicated behavior due to interaction between the various large-scale phenomena. To evaluate the long-term change in the anomalous summer climate, we introduce a nonlinear classification technique by using “Self-Organizing Map”. During past 32 years (1979-2010), the SOM analysis well captures the feature of anomalous summer climate in relation to extreme high- and low-temperature events around Japan. The results exhibit that the frequency of cool summer patterns gradually decreases and reversely that of hot summer is significantly increases during the period.

They tried to use them for making the new city design. This attempt has been a success, but, on the other hand, it shows clear of the problem of the image of Maizuru derived from Japanese naval-base.

Distribution of the dose rate caused by the accidents of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power stations is measured by gamma ray spectrometer with GPS onboard a car. Driving route is selected on the branch roads and forestry roads, and detailed dose rate distribution is obtained around Date, Iitate, Kawamata and Fukushima areas. The dose rate distribution is strongly dependent on the topography. In Iitate and Kawamata region, south-east faced slope has high dose rate. The ridge between Abukuma watershed and Pacific ocean watershed make clear boundary between high and low dose rate distribution.

The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the seasonal changes in water quality of the lake as affected by the fluctuation of water level as well as by the human activity. The changes in water quality are characterized by the increase of the ratio of chloride and sodium ions during the dry season in the northern area of the lake. It is pointed out that the changes in water quality in the dry season is induced by the increase of discharge from inflowing tributaries attendant with the lowering of lake water level.

In England, the academic geography has been strong influential discipline to geography education. According to these influence, key concepts in geography education thought have been proposed after 1960’s paradigm change on academic geography/geography education. The latest National Curriculum Geography 2008 proposes 7 key concepts clearly, but region is never key concept. This absence of region as key concept is contrastive to Japanese geography education. Region has altered to place/space/scale. In order to interpret this change, we, Japanese geography educator, have to dialogue with academic geographer around current concepts of region/place/space/scale.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship among shallow landslide, geomorphology, and geology in the Baichi watershed.
Results show that overall correctness of the decision-tree model by a 10-fold cross-validation is as large as 78.3 %. The tree-structure indicates that shallow landslides occurred in a specific location where mean slope angle exceeds 34 degree, and dominant geology is not the Shihti Formation.

In the late decades, we can see the some salient changes in the features of developing countries. One of them is that land has become very scarce. The land needs to meet several demands of the non-agricultural sector as an “appropriate land”. Such land can be of three kinds; Merto-adjacent land, infrastructural land and agricultural land for mining purposes (Sathe: 2011). In Karnataka, most of these kinds of lands are dry land, which has been exerted for improving the status of farmers by irrigation. We will discuss the relation between “public” works and the system of management of conflicts between actors.

Now lots of attempts that not in the indoor but in the outdoor, trying to explain the field as a museum, are increasing and diversified in Japan --ex. World Heritages, Geoparks, UNESCO MAB, Ramsar Convention, or ecomuseums (I'll call them as "field museums" in my presentation). People in Kyushu are also eager for the establishment, in Aso region, for example, they are now preparing eagerly for the World Cultural Heritage, World Geopark, and ecomusem. Officers are often led into the argument of the registration, however we have to argue how we can handle our heritages after the registration. First of all, I'll show you these situation in Kyushu. Then I'll discuss about the new possibility of geographical curators. So far in the traditional indoor museums, curators have wanted as specialists, however in the field museums, curators will wanted as generalists, for every elements are connected in the real field, so I guess the possibility of geographical curators who can connect and explain the whole elements will increase from now on. Geographical Association should appeal harder the communities and universities to acknowledge the importance of geographical curators. Finally I'll discuss about some problems that geographers should know after they become curators.
