Abstract

in history books on modern cartography ob japan, the name "jorudan"is seen as the first instructor of french modern cartography. but the details on him and his works were unknown in japan. i had a chance of investigating on him at the archive service historique de l'armee de terre and found his name jourdan and the maps drawn by him and his colleagues. the map "boungo channel"is mainly explained with other maps.
