Abstract
Savannakhet prefecture is located in the southern part of Laos. It is a prefecture with large forest coverage. It is said that loss of extensive forest has occurred in this prefecture because of the expansion of shifting cultivation and farmlands in recent years. In this study, we use the satellite imagery taken 2008 and 1968 (AVNIR-2 and CORONA) for an analysis of land use change and deforestation in this prefecture. For the image classification, five types of land use / land cover (Closed Forest, Open Forest, Paddy, Bare, and Shrub/Bush was used.
