Abstract
The objectives of this paper are to illustrate the various kinds of mangrove utilization in Okinawa Island (26° 12' N 127° 40' E, Naha City) from 2009 to 2011 and to discuss the regional characteristics of mangrove utilization in the Island. The results showed that the mangrove tree is not used as a timber resource. Well-developed mangrove forests in the rural area are used as ecotourism sites and these mangrove wetlands have become an important tourism resource. The suburban mangrove forest provides city-dwellers with beautiful scenery and a place for relaxation while providing wild animals with their habitats.
