Abstract
The 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake generated tsunamis that caused great damage to wide range of east Japan on the Pacific side. We described thickness and lithofacies of the tsunami deposits around Matsukawa-Ura Bay, Fukushima Prefecture, northeast Japan.
Tsunami deposits around the Matsukawa-Ura Bay showed characteristics of the tsunami deposits reported by previous studies, as follows, (i) the tsunami deposits become generally thinner and finer with distance from the shoreline, (ii) intercalation of organic-rich silt layers deposited during the stagnant phase, and (iii) variations in thickness due to local surface relief.
