Abstract
Global change research is undergoing major structural change under a new framework called Future Earth. Geographers can play important roles in it, as demonstrated by the nomination of Dr. Frans Berkhout, a professor of geography, as its Interim Director. Geography is a science of region, space, environment and integration, and such nature of this discipline helps its contribution to Future Earth. For example, geographers can work with other GeoUnions colleagues to improve treatment of natural resources in Future Earth. Improvement and promotion of ESD and environmental education, as well as geography education might be another worthwhile challenge for geographers.
