Previous studies revealed that externalities derived from the population concentration in urban areas positively affect agglomerations of high-tech industries. Such externalities are termed as the knowledge spillover. Using the OECD environment-related patent statistics, the purpose of the present study is to explicate the Marshall-Arrow-Romer (MAR) and Jacobs externalities, which result from population concentration in urban areas, on agglomeration of environment-related industries in Sweden. As a result, both externalities positively influenced the agglomeration of these industries. It was revealed, however, that only the MAR externality was statistically significant.

The orienteering practice for learning of navigation in geography education of high school was done, and the effect was verified. 197 students at Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Kokusai High School took part in this course.I was analyzed separately for map-reading ability (Geography examination score) and moving ability (Long-distance running) for navigation ability. As a result, both men and women, map-reading ability has a great influence on navigation ability. For women, the moving ability also influences have been shown. As a result, orienteering practice is appropriate as learning in geography. And, there is a possibility of collaboration with the Physical Education.

The aim of this presentation is to clarify the position of old railway infrastructure as a regional resource, and to clarify the differences in the use of steam locomotive formerly used by the Forestry agency (Numata, Gunma), and salvaged diesel locomotive from the forest railway (Mamurogawa, Yamagata).
In Mamurogawa, by re-activating the old locomotive, their value as tourist attractions have been greatly increased. The Numata steam locomotive is being preserved as an example of steam locomotive technology through the efforts of a volunteer group.

We will provide a series of three presentations related to geography education focusing on the application of Augmented Reality (AR) : two in the oral session and one in the poster session. AR is a view of real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-aided input such as camera image and GPS data. Augmentation is conventionally in real time and in a semantic context with environmental elements, such as detailed explanation of old temples during the field test. With the help of AR, artificial and additional information about the surroundings of a test subject can be overlaid on the real view.

Geographical expertise of teachers is crucial to excellent geography teaching/learning. We surveyed primary and lower secondary Social Studies teachers expertise and their lessons in 2013. This presentation reports the outcome of the survey with regard to geographical expertise. Differences in geographical expertise have affected teachers’ attitudes to geography education and practices, especially in junior high school. The geography field is the most difficult/worrisome for teachers. History is the least difficult, and civics is a little less difficult than geography. The detailed data analysis reveals the relationships between teachers' geographical expertise, attitudes to geography education, and geography lesson practice in Japan.

In and around the Shinmurabashi Bridge in Kamikochi Valley of northern Japanese Alps, debris hummocks and a minor ridge features both 10 m high and with angular gravels are developed on the alluvial fan along Benten-sawa River and Okumatashiro-dani River, respectively. These landforms are not moraines but rock avalanche origin supplied from the east face of Maehotakadake North Ridge about 2500-3000 m ASL. Terrestrial cosmogenic nuclide chronology reveals that these features were formed in the period during 6.0-7.9 ka (hummocks) and 0.8-1.1 ka (minor ridge).

Continuous population growth had been observed in the Tokyo wards during 2000s. This paper clarifies the gentrification processes and their features in the Tokyo wards by examining the relationship between land price distribution and residents attributes. As a result of the analysis, gentrification in Chuo-ku and Minato-ku are explained by "production side" theory and "consumption side" theory respectively. However, both gentrification did not accompany the outflow of blue-collar workers. In considering that there is few distinct slum area, gentrification in the Tokyo wards would need a different definition from other regions.

This research aims at examining the relationship between natural resource development and urban formation in China through a case study of Jilin Petroleum in the city of Songyuan, Jilin Province. In China, the ownership rights of national resources belong to the state. The development of natural resources is definitely regarded as a national policy. Then, the state-owned enterprise accomplishes a large amount of national investment and, at the same time, takes the lead in constructing the base city of natural resource development. As a result, the enterprise forms unique space where the former planned economic system seems to be held.

This research focuses on the restructuring of urban farming and describes the local impacts of commodification of rural space, using the Sunagawa area in Tachikawa City as an example. This research focuses on the direct marketing of farm products by farm produce shops. The types of farm produce shops in an area are considered to reflect the degree of farm restructuring and of the commodification of rural space. In response to continuous urban expansion and diversification of urban residents’ needs, there has been a shift from the traditional type of farm produce shops towards more complex types.

Development of gravitational rock deformation and its related landforms on the Hounose-dendeiro Ridge, the upper Tama River Basin, 100 km west of Tokyo, are discussed. Toppling and buckling of bedrock (sedimentary rocks of the Shimanto belt) and the resultant formation of gravitational faults and linear depressions are described. Timing of these deformations is also discussed by using tephrochronology and radiocarbon dates.

The water environment (volcanic island in particular) in the remote island is special from altitude, the topography, a permeable difference. All are volcanic islands, and, in Izu Islands, each island shows characteristic water environment, and there is a big difference by an island. Above all, Hachijojima, Mikurajima was blessed with fresh water environment, and the water which strongly received influence of water and the groundwater which strongly received influence of the rainwater was seen mainly there. In the island that was not blessed with other fresh water, I performed it mainly on an investigation into groundwater, and influence of water and the groundwater that the influence from the sea was big was divided into big water. There was particularly much SO4 and, in prosperous Izuoshima, Miyakejima of the volcanic activity, still showed the special quality of the water included in to some water, and influence from volcanic eject was seen. In the island that was not blessed with these fresh water, I was able to confirm a lot of swamps which died considered to appear only at the time of rain. The factor that has a big influence on water environment of Izu Islands has a much bigger influence (the progress number of years from the rain, a geological feature, the topography, the last eruption activity) more natural than human influence, and all of the islands are common in that, and it is big, and sea salt controls the quality of the water. In Miyakejima and a part of Izuoshima, SO4 considered to be related to the volcano greatly has an influence on the quality of the water exceptionally.

The presentation explores why terrace houses are increasingly converted into shops in Osakas Nakazaki neighborhood. Therefore it draws on Sharon Zukins (1991) work, who argued that gentrifiers have a stronger right to historical buildings than normal people, because they claim them not only economically but also culturally. The presentation argues that this cultural claim is affirmed by the local community who supports the gentrifiers in order to raise their own profit.
