Abstract

I identified 34 settlement’s relocation movements till the 1933 tsunami hazard by referring Yamaguchi’s
article (1967). 6 of them is group relocation.  Only 1 relocated settlement, however, could escape severe damage of the 2011 tsunami.  I identified 77 settlement’s relocation movements after the 1933 tsunami hazard by referring Yamaguchi’s article also. 25 of them is group relocation.  We cann't recognize considerable positive effect of group relocation to escape severe damage by tsunami hazard.  Following conditions have obstructed the relocation movements of settlements along the ria coast. Topographical condition: Steep slope behind coastal settlements, Economic condition: Strong dependence on the fishing industries, Living condition: Difficulties of water supply and transportation among neighboring settlements.
