Abstract
The number of environment-related technologies has increased remarkably over the past two decades, as has the public’s interest in effective resource use and ways to reduce the effects of global warming. Such an increase in the environment-related technologies has also encouraged growth in environment-related industries based on these technologies. The purpose of the present paper is to explicate regional competitiveness of the environment-related industries in Japan. As a result, using the OECD regional patent statistics and SWOT analysis, it was revealed that prefectures classified into metropolitan areas had relatively high regional competitiveness.
