Abstract
Vernagt is located in the Mediterranean climate zone and does not have enough pasture to feed livestock because of high altitude. Therefore, the transhumance of sheep has been practiced between Vernagt and Niedertal (Austria). This study discusses the relationship between modern tourism and local people’s ordinary lives through the transhumance of sheep in Vernagt of the northern part of Italy. Tourists find the ordinary event to locals like the transhumance of Vernagt as an extraordinary attraction but their participation usually happens without permission from the local people, which may result in only an interference with their work and lives.
