Abstract
agustin codazzi was born at lugo,,italy.in 1793.  he studied artillery and military engineering at artillery theory and practice school in pavia,.  in 1826 .he went to gran colombia,, northern south america. .in 1830 .venezuelan government decided to make the whole country maps and ordered the work to agustin codazzi.. the work was completed as"atlas fisico y politico de la republica de venezuela"in 1839 and printed in paris in 1840. he moved to bogota in 1849.  nueva granada government ordered provincil corographic mapping to codazzi..and establihed corographic commission to suppot him. he died during the tenth expediton in 1859 before the completement .the commission continued and completed the work as"atlas de los estados unidos de colombia 1865". his mapping has some similarity with the one by ino tadataka in japan as whole country mapping directed by one person before the government mapping organizations began their works.
