Abstract
A method is represented to reconstruct typhoon tracks around Japan from 1901 to 2000. Using August daily rainfall data of two stations (Miyazaki and Ooita), we defined a typhoon accompanied by orographic rain band in Eastern Kyushu during the 20th century. The result showed that the typhoon number has decreased rapidly after 1950. It is likely due to the southwestward shift of the North Pacific subtropical high after 1950. We also performed correlation analysis between monthly rainfall in August and reconstructed typhoon numbers. The result suggested that region with a significant correlation between them has shifted southwestward after 1950.
