Abstract
A review is made for digitization of the JMA precipitation data. Daily and subdaily data at JMA offices have so far been digitized and quality-checked, and are accessible on the JMA's homepage, providing a high-quality dataset for over a hundred years. However, precipitation observation has undergone some changes in observation time and raingauge types, for which detailed metadata are needed to check temporal homogeneity. Data of the local observation (Kunai observation), which measured daily precipitation at over a thousand sites until the 1970s, have also been digitized for 1926 onwards, and digitization of data before 1926 is currently underway.
