Abstract
On 15 August 1899, a typhoon caused a record high wind of 49.6m/s at Kagoshima. Due to this strong wind, about 16,000 houses that account for 9.7% of the total houses were destroyed in Kagoshima Prefecture. This study documents the features of the typhoon and the wind disaster, which are not documented in recent literature, by collecting data from a number of sources.
