Abstract

In ancient times, the major purpose of geography was description about regions. In modern science the purpose of geography has developed to make scientific facts clear.

On the other hand, contribution of geography to human affairs has not been noticed until recent times. Recently, various environment changes have been more significant than before. In response to such changes, it has become an urgent issue that human beings must develop sustainably. It also becomes a big task how we deliver the geographical results to the society.

In recent years, disaster problems have become one of such important issues. Furthermore, it is necessary to show regional characteristics clearly in informing people in society of geographical results. It is effective to show various land condition maps such as hazard maps, landform classification maps and active fault distribution maps in showing regional characteristics of lands against natural disasters. In addition to these maps, it is also important to use geographical information system (GIS) to show regional conditions against disasters. Based on these maps and GIS including matters about evacuation behavior, it is necessary to establish disaster geography for the future human society
