Changes in the typhoon tracks approaching the Kanto area were investigated for the 1951-2020 period. The number of typhoons approaching the Kanto area has increased after 2000. We defined typhoon moving direction for each typhoon using the best track data from the Japan Meteorological Agency. The typhoon moving direction has changed from the west and southwest direction before 2000 to SSW-SSE direction after 2000. The years that the North Pacific subtropical high shifts northeastward was observed after 2000. We concluded that the circulation changes after 2000 affected the typhoon numbers and tracks approaching the Kanto area.

In ancient times, the major purpose of geography was description about regions. In modern science the purpose of geography has developed to make scientific facts clear.
On the other hand, contribution of geography to human affairs has not been noticed until recent times. Recently, various environment changes have been more significant than before. In response to such changes, it has become an urgent issue that human beings must develop sustainably. It also becomes a big task how we deliver the geographical results to the society.
In recent years, disaster problems have become one of such important issues. Furthermore, it is necessary to show regional characteristics clearly in informing people in society of geographical results. It is effective to show various land condition maps such as hazard maps, landform classification maps and active fault distribution maps in showing regional characteristics of lands against natural disasters. In addition to these maps, it is also important to use geographical information system (GIS) to show regional conditions against disasters. Based on these maps and GIS including matters about evacuation behavior, it is necessary to establish disaster geography for the future human society

I comment why learning geography is important for disaster mitigation from the following three points of view.
1. Reconsideration concerning disaster prevention in living areas saturated with artifacts in the Anthropocene.
2. Necessity of systematic geographical education for more resilient disaster mitigation with a flexible mindset.
3. Geographical disaster mitigation education as a challenge for improving the relationship between human society and natural environment.

This study examines the characteristic of sustainable development of mobilities through completion of transport infrastructure in European countries through a case of the Munich metropolitan area in Germany. After overviewing the characteristics of transport infrastructure development in Europe, I analyzed the characteristics of maintaining and expanding mobility based on statistical analysis of transport infrastructure development in the Munich metropolitan area. Analysis shows that in Europe, transportation infrastructure has been systematically developed on different spatial scales, such as global movement linking European countries with the others, movement within the EU, movement between major cities, and movement of daily living areas.

The Science Council of Japan (2007) pointed out the need for a "paradigm shift" from an attitude of emphasizing the short-term economy to respecting long-term safety assurance. The 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake proved that the point was appropriate and was treated as "unpredictable" immediately after the occurrence, but it was actually "unexpected" only in terms of countermeasures. “Unexpected” has resulted in irreparable nuclear accidents and the loss of many lives. If geography is responsible for hazard mapping, we need to face social debates about "what we should expect (assume)" and reflect them in geography education.

1. Awareness of issues in this research
"Geographical viewpoint / idea" is composed of five viewpoints, "position and distribution", "place", "interdependence between humans and natural environment", "spatial interdependence", and "region", and the aim of the lesson. It is important to be able to use it properly and work freely. GIS enables accurate presentation of positions and distributions on maps, analysis of relationships between events by superimposing multiple maps, and illustration of spatial regularity and trends based on statistical methods. However, there were problems such as it was not clear in which unit and how to use it to exert the effect, and it was complicated to prepare data suitable for the learning content. This study verifies the effect of the current situation of utilizing GIS in such geographic education from the aspect of the students themselves operating and utilizing GIS.
2. Class practice
A total of 7 hours of practice was conducted for 18 students who chose the A high school 2nd grade liberal arts class geography B at the research cooperation school. Since the first hour was positioned as the introduction of the unit, I was exposed to various WebGIS. In the 2nd and 3rd hours, we focused mainly on "position and distribution" and created a statistical map using jSTATMAP. In the 4th and 5th hours, we focused mainly on the "region" and conducted a regional survey using the Geographical Survey Institute map. In the 6th and 7th hours, use the overlapping hazard maps and Google Street View to think about the evacuation route based on the estimated damage range and the evacuation conditions distributed to each group, and then evacuate using Google Street View. I walked the route and asked them to summarize what they had investigated in an evacuation map.
Research cooperation school A high school 2nd grade science 3 classes for a total of 109 students each practiced for 1 hour. Here, regarding regional disaster prevention, instead of using digital teaching materials using ICT, the layers of the Geographical Survey Institute map are printed on OHP sheets and distributed to students, and students can experience the layer functions of GIS at hand and take into account the presentation. The class was organized so that students could consider the problems and exchange opinions. In addition, the base map and layers of the relevant range of the Geographical Survey Institute map used this time are posted on the worksheet in QR code.
3. Achievements and challenges
Through the lesson aim and GIS teaching materials set here, the students were able to work their geographical viewpoints and ways of thinking in line with them. And, in addition to the aim set here, it was also seen that they were considered from other perspectives. In addition, the improvement of geographical skills related to GIS was seen throughout the unit. And the students themselves felt the usefulness of actually operating it. In addition, there were many descriptions that students would like to use GIS to investigate areas that are familiar to them or areas of interest, which is thought to have been effective in fostering an attitude of proactively engaging in learning. Furthermore, through the creation of evacuation maps, the effect of encouraging geographical exploration activities involving "decision-making" was also seen. In the practice of analog GIS, I was able to realize that it was processed step by step (successively) by actually layering the map layers with my own hands. The problem is that it is difficult for some students to imagine the prepared data, areas, maps, and operation of equipment. For this, it is necessary to select data and devise working hours according to the actual situation of the students.

The present review paper outlined the history of how various types of desertification/land degradation were originated regionally, intensified, and spread to a larger area in the agricultural history and climate change over the past hundred thousand years. Region-specific methods of agriculture were invented fitting in with the local natural resources and developed in the sequence characterized by each of major climo-vegetation types in the world (forest, woodland, and grassland/desert), whereas the corresponding region-specific type of desertification occurred if agricultural impacts exceeded the resilience of the natural resources.

Inbound travel patterns vary between generating regions, but the causes are not well identified. This study conducted a network analysis for understanding the different pattern between Taiwan and Mainland China group package tours (GPTs) to Toyama prefecture, Japan. Networks determined by Taiwan (389) and Mainland China (258) GPTs itineraries collected from the website. As a result, GPTs from Mainland China highlighted the "Tokyo-Osaka" touring route while GPTs from Taiwan seem more regional-oriented. The maturity of the market could be a cause of different travel pattern. Evidence was also found in the further interview to travel agencies.

Local society in Japan has been suffered its economic and social stagnation due to rapid decreasing of population and rapid increasing of aged population. It is one of major social issues for Japanese government. The southern part of Mie Prefecture has been also suffered caused the similar reasons.
To solve these problems, we have hypothesized that the answer would take in sharing the newly created values cooperating partnerships among Industry-Academia-Local Government-Local Community, then we especially worked on the Mie-Yuzu Project in collaboration with Tsuji Oil Milling Company: yuzu or Citrus junos is a kind of Japanese citrus. In this paper, we report that the results of a survey on the activities and subsequent efforts of the Mie-Yuzu Project in Odai Town, Mie Prefecture, in order to transform the "Sustainable Odai-Town Model" toward the next stage. The concept and results reported here will become a sustainable local society model, as far as newly created values are shared in the community.

The GeoCapabilities project for teacher training in geography education does not consider why capabilities matter as the end of education. According to Nussbaum, capabilities can be embodied in ten concrete, dynamic, and changeable lists which are nothing but geographical properties, as capabilities entail what is necessary for human dignity in a given place and time. Geographical considerations are crucial for determining what capabilities are. This is what the GeoCapabilities project holds in itself: it is not just the application of capabilities in geography education, but the investigation of education and the fundamental value of geography education.

Since the 1990s, with the formation of the Single Market and the increase in the number of member states in the EU, social change has replaced natural change as the major contributor to demographic change in individual regions in the EU. Population flows that bring about social changes take place at various scales, and these changes are shaping and changing the character of today's urban as well as rural areas. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the actual situation of population flows between urban and rural areas, focusing on migration to rural areas.

This paper analyzed the concept of “urban commons” which economic geographers Harvey, D. presented from using the scale theories in human geography, through analyzing the controversy of Miyashita Park in Tokyo. When the management authority of the park shifts to the designated manager, a private company profits from the function of transportation and the image of the place created by every “user” of Miyashita Park. This process can be defined as “monopoly rent”. In this process, the upper scales such as countries and regions “integrate” the scales of the body, community, and urban space.
