Abstract

The GeoCapabilities project for teacher training in geography education does not consider why capabilities matter as the end of education. According to Nussbaum, capabilities can be embodied in ten concrete, dynamic, and changeable lists which are nothing but geographical properties, as capabilities entail what is necessary for human dignity in a given place and time. Geographical considerations are crucial for determining what capabilities are. This is what the GeoCapabilities project holds in itself: it is not just the application of capabilities in geography education, but the investigation of education and the fundamental value of geography education.
