Abstract

This paper reports on the practices and challenges of map / GIS education of “Chiri-sogo (Geography)” as a high school subject. With the compulsory course of " Chiri-sogo (Geography)", all high school students are learning maps and GIS, and a system to improve map literacy is being established. As social expectations rise, it is necessary to continue discussions on the evaluation of map / GIS education in class and the training of teachers while practicing. Competency is becoming more important in the new course of study, and a shift from "what you know" to "what you can do" is about to be achieved.
