Abstract

Since approximately 90% of the world's hooded cranes winter around Izumi City, Kagoshima Prefecture, there is concern about the risk of extinction due to outbreaks of infectious diseases, and the formation of new wintering grounds for cranes is being considered in Japan, by the Ministry of the Environment. However, there is little information on the habitat of cranes in new wintering grounds. In this study, we examined the home range and habitat preferences of cranes in the Iwaki district of Seiyo City, Ehime Prefecture, which is one of the candidate sites for a new wintering area.
