Abstract

The Geocapabilities project, initiated in Europe in 2013, has been developed in Asia by Shimura, Ito, and Miao. This poster focuses on curriculum making in Japan and China, using Lambert's curriculum making model. The model emphasizes the importance of teachers balancing student experiences, school geography, and teaching choice. In Japan, the model was used to study for revealing differences between teachers' commitment and their disciplinary foundations. In China, Xin Miao compared geography teachers' curriculum making diagrams with the Lambert model, revealing a difference between teachers who entered teaching before a Gaokao policy change and those who entered after. The Lambert-aligned teachers demonstrate a more sophisticated understanding of curriculum making and more agency in curriculum making.
