Abstract

Introduction.

Voluntary migration in pursuit of an ideal lifestyle and for reasons other than economic factors is referred to as “lifestyle migration.” In recent years, there has been increasing research on migration between Japan and other countries. However, no research exists on return migration in which people return to their original place of residence after migrating to another place. Walsh (2022) suggests that this phenomenon has been overlooked in discussions on the return of lifestyle migrants. Therefore, this study focuses on the motives of lifestyle migrants for returning to their hometown. Hence, this study conducted a questionnaire survey of returnees to clarify the “image of lifestyle migrant returnees” based on their motives.
