Abstract

Since the 1990s, international migration to China has surged, with over 840,000 foreigners in 2020. Major cities like Beijing and Shanghai host ethnic enclaves of Koreans, Americans, and Japanese, while Myanmarese and Vietnamese primarily settle in southwestern provinces. This has diversified ethnic populations and dispersed their settlements.Ethnic geography research in China focuses on overseas Chinese and domestic ethnic groups, examining residential patterns, segregation, ethnic town formation, and socio-cultural aspects like adaptation, networks, and cultural landscapes, often tied to ethnic business. Recently, ethnic culture is being commodified for tourism, particularly through restaurants. However, this tourism development and localization also face criticism, with the relationship between home and host countries significantly impacting the viability of ethnic cultural tourism.
