Abstract

California's wildfires are often attributed to climate change and winds like the Santa Ana, but the role of excessive agriculture and water resource consumption is critical. Overuse of water for farming has dried rivers, depleted groundwater, and caused land subsidence, worsening environmental instability and wildfire risks. Post-fire effects, such as ecosystem salt damage and landslides, exacerbate the crisis. Similar issues in wildfire-prone regions globally highlight unsustainable agricultural practices. Solutions include restricting water-intensive agriculture, banning water exports, enhancing groundwater management, and implementing post-fire recovery plans. Addressing these factors is essential for sustainable wildfire mitigation and regional stability.
