Abstract
This study explores the role of social media in Islamic education using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The research aims to understand current trends, key benefits, and challenges in leveraging social media as a tool for Islamic education. Based on an analysis of 18 selected articles, the findings indicate a significant increase in the use of social media for Islamic education, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Major trends include a shift from teacher-centered to student-centered learning and diversification in the use of platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The primary benefits identified include global accessibility to Islamic educational content, enhanced student engagement, and the promotion of moderate Islamic values. The results of this study are expected to serve as a guide for educators, policymakers, and Islamic education communities to optimally utilize social media as an innovative and relevant educational tool. However, the study also highlights critical challenges, such as the risk of misinformation, ethical issues in social media usage, and limitations in content credibility. To address these challenges, strategies such as adopting the principle of sabayon (critical verification), developing structured content, and involving Islamic scholars on social media platforms are proposed.
