Abstract
This study evaluates the effectiveness of legal reforms aimed at enhancing women' s safety in rehabilitation centers in Uttar Pradesh, India. Violence against women, a pervasive issue across socio-economic, cultural, and geographic boundaries, has long been a critical concern. This research addresses gender-based discrimination and systemic challenges faced by women in institutional care settings. The study surveyed 100 women from rehabilitation centers in the Delhi NCR region, selected through purposive sampling to ensure diversity across socio-economic status, age, education, and regional background. A mixed-methods approach, integrating quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, was employed to capture both measurable trends and lived experiences. Quantitative data were analyzed using MS Excel and SPSS, applying descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis. Qualitative data were thematically analyzed to identify recurring patterns and underlying issues. The findings show that legal reforms are positively associated with improvements in women' s well-being, with effective law enforcement playing a significant role in safeguarding their rights. However, legislative changes alone are insufficient without consistent policy enforcement, awareness-building, and institutional accountability. The results underscore the importance of comprehensive legal frameworks in combating gender-based violence and fostering gender equality. The study advocates for collaborative efforts between policymakers, law enforcement, and civil society to create safer, more supportive, and equitable environments for women in rehabilitation centers.
