The author discusses the subject specialization in the education for library and information science, examining the actual programs in the case of music specialization in the United States and European countries.
In the United States, where the music specialization has relatively long history, following three types of programs exist :
① joint-degree programs in library and information science and music
② specialization courses in music librarianship
③ music librarianship as an elective
The author reports each type of programs and also reports the music specialization in the cases of German and the United Kingdom.
Finally, the author evaluates above mentioned type ① and type ③ programs as the training course of subject specialists. And concludes that type ①: joint-degree programs have lots of possibility for the subject specialization in the recent information society and the recent trend of the education for library and information science.
