Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study historical relationship between library and information science and communication science, paying attention to both academical lineage. As the results of this study, it was proved that communication science developed in 1930th backing prosperity of mass media, and communication research had a great influence on library science of the same period. It was also proved that communication theory built in 1930th provided foundation reconsidering relationship between library and information science and communication science besides communication theory by Shannon.
