This paper examines competitive strategies in which industry standards are important from a competitive standpoint. Drawing on existing research, this study first discusses strategies that should be adopted by companies to establish these standards. Encouraging the formation of user expectations and properly utilizing competition and cooperation are important in establishing industry standards. Next, it considers the aspects of generational change in industry standards and strategies that inhibit and promote such changes.
