This paper examines competitive strategies in which industry standards are important from a competitive standpoint. Drawing on existing research, this study first discusses strategies that should be adopted by companies to establish these standards. Encouraging the formation of user expectations and properly utilizing competition and cooperation are important in establishing industry standards. Next, it considers the aspects of generational change in industry standards and strategies that inhibit and promote such changes.
Printers have taken on the important role of functioning as the workhorses for PC output, or more importantly, in information technology. Among these, the inkjet printer has undergone remarkable development in the past 20 years. A product plan taking advantage of certain technological characteristics was key to stoke the embers of this nascent market. New product development competition among manufacturers led to increased functionality and reduced prices.
