Abstract

Although international theorists believe that the use of capabilities developed in Japan is a principal factor in the overseas development of enterprises, there has not been sufficient research into the possibility that multinational corporations from the same country may exhibit different behavior patterns in the same overseas location. This paper focuses on the handling of local crises (local environmental changes) that multinational companies encounter overseas, and demonstrates that the handling of local crises in the same overseas location by two multinational corporations from the same country may differ according to their financial resources and organizational capabilities. Using a simple analytical framework, a comparative analysis is performed on the handling of local crises of Toyota Motor Corp. and Mitsubishi Motors in Thailand.
