Abstract

This paper focuses on field-based research methods (FRBM), as they are known within the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Economics, used in the social sciences, and in particular, the study of business administration. While these methods are mastered through repeated experiences of conducting field surveys, much is also grasped within the classroom. Spending time in the field after mastering basic concepts and frameworks is preferred. The relationship between academic research and data collection is examined herein as a launch pad for FBRM.
