Existing research regarding the success and failure of international joint ventures primarily focus on the perspective of multinational corporations headquartered in advanced nations. This paper approaches the issue from the perspective of China and describes the corporate activities throughout the lifetime of Guangzhou Peugeot. An exploration is made of how the company’s business conditions and the partnership changed over time, the main factors that led to the company’s closure, and the subsequent impact the failure had on the passenger vehicle industry in Guangzhou.
