Solvent Extraction of Lanthanoids with N-p-Methoxy- and N-p-Octyloxybenzoyl-N-phenylhydroxylamine

Abstract

The solvent extraction of lanthanoid ions with N-p-methoxy (MBPHA) and N-p-octyloxy (OBPHA) derivatives of N-benzoyl-N-phenylhydroxylamine (BPHA) in chloroform was studied. The selected lanthanoids (Yb, Ho, Eu, Pr and La) were all found to extract with compounds as self-adducts of the form LnL₃mHL, (m=1 for BPHA, 2 for MBPHA and 3 for OBPHA), where L and HL denote the ligand anion and neutral ligand, respectively. The extraction constants and separation factors for the lanthanoids with MBPHA and OBPHA were evaluated.
