Abstract

A simple and rapid method for the determination of such organic compounds as geosmin, 2-methylisoborneol(2-MIB) was investigated by chemiluminescence method. Luminol-hydrogen peroxide-potassium peroxodisulfate co-oxidation system in alkaline solution was adopted as chemiluminescence reaction. The chemiluminescence intensity was clearly decreased with an increase in concentration of geosmin and 2-MIB. The concentrations of geosmin and 2-MIB were measured by using the inhibitory effect on the CL reaction. The detection limits for these compounds were 5.5x10-11M for geosmin and 1.2x10-10M for 2-MIB. The relative standard deviations(n=5) for 5.5x10-11M geosmin and 1.2x10-10M 2-MIB were 5.4% and 10%, respectively.
