The crystal structure of [ClHgL], L = 1,3-bis(2-methoxybenzene)triazene was determined by X-ray diffraction. The complex crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P1 with a = 9.2614(5), b = 11.4127(6), c = 16.3378(9)Å, α = 110.401(5)°, β = 106.075(5)°, γ = 90.302(5)°, V = 1545.3(2)Å3, Z = 4. The structure was solved by the direct method (SHELXTL-98) and had refined R value of 0.0361 for 4709 reflections (I > 2σ(I)). The Hg atom is coordinated by a Cl atom as well as O, N and N atoms of the ligand in a tetrahedral geometry.
