Crystal Structure of Bis[O,O′-di(p-tolyl)thiophosphoryl]disulfide, [(p-MeC₆H₄O)₂PS₂]₂

Bis[O,O′-di(p-tolyl)thiophosphoryl]disulfide crystallizes in the space group P2₁/c with a = 11.145(2)Å, b = 7.965(7)Å, c = 17.065(2)Å, β = 90.300(1)° and Z = 2. Both distorted tetrahedrally coordinated phosphorus atoms have two p-MeC₆H₄O groups, which are oriented in such a way that each is centro symmetrically related to the mid point of the S-S bond, resulting in the equivalent p-MeC₆H₄O groups being co-planar and a P-S-S-P torsion angle of 179.02(4)°.
