On June 23-24, the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Nuclear Cardiology (JSNC) was successfully held at Dejima Messe, Nagasaki. On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the participants, speakers, sponsors, and supporting staff of this meeting. Two hundred and thirty-five people (Dr: 181, medical staff: 52, students; 2) attended 2 award sessions, 2 symposia, 8 seminars, 1 special session, and 6 oral sessions with 36 presentations. In addition, 9 case report presentations were given in an on-demand format.
This year, as chairperson, I set two basic policies for JSNC2023. Firstly, I consider nuclear cardiology to be at a turning point due to, for example, the challenge from FFRCT and the unexpected findings of trials, such as ISCHEMIA and REVIVED-BCIS2. As nuclear cardiologists, we must challenge ourselves to develop new frontiers. Therefore, to make this year’s meeting rich in variety, I set the main theme of JSNC 2023 as “To boldly go where no cardiologist has gone before”. Secondly, we decided to hold this meeting in a full on-site style. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the opportunity to give oral presentations to an actual audience was limited. We consider face-to-face, direct discussions with an actual audience to be of irreplaceable value. Therefore, scientific presentations were held on site this year, similar to before the COVID-19 pandemic, and more than 50 abstracts were submitted. Due to the unexpectedly high number of abstracts and the limited number of time slots available, some of the case presentations had to be sent to the on-demand style presentation, which I apologize for as the chairperson of the meeting. There were hot and active discussions between the presenters and audience in JSNC2023, which indicated that we have finally recovered from the damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thank you again for attending JSNC2023 in Nagasaki. We will hold JSNC2024 in Saitama. We look forward to seeing you there next year.
