A thiopeptin-resistant mutant of E. coli has been obtained. Resistance was shown to be associated with the 508 ribosomal subunit of the mutant. It was also demonstrated that both elongation factor EF T-dependent binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mutant ribosomes and the formation of the elongation factor EF G-GDP-mutant ribosome complex were resistant to thiopeptin.
