Abstract
Almost all Bacteroides strains isolated from the clinical specimens were susceptible to chloramphenicol, clindamycin and lincomycin in vitro.
Clinical response to lincomycin treatment was investigated in 4 cases of Bacteroides infections.
In two of the three cases with sepsis, there was a rapid clinical response to the treatment with oral administration of clindamycin and with intramuscular injections of lincomycin. A case with empyema was treated effectively with a large dose of lincomycin. Lincomycins seem to be the antibiotic of choice for Bacteroides infections.
