In the course of searching for antitumor antibiotic using the Ehrlich ascites tumor, we found an effective substance from the filtrate of a new kind of Streptomyces sp. 13-90 which was isolated from the soil collected at Yumoto-machi in Oga Peninsula, Akita Prefecture. We have named it “cervicarcin”, K. Ohkuma, et al.1) have reported on its isolation and physico-chemical properties and C. Itakura, et al.2) on its antitumor effect. This paper deals with the microbiological characteristics of cervicarcin-producing organism, Streptomyces sp. 13-90.
