Abstract
We obtained the following results by morphological research on liver of sensitized rabbits, which we had been given pharmacological stimulation with cocain.
The liver-cells become smaller and round, and the cell-cords become irregular and later net-formed. The function of the nucleus diminishes and finally terminates in cases of injections continuing 40 days or more.
The mtiochondria in the liver-cells changes remarkably and may be seen in various forms from granular to filament form. Their distribution changes and tend to group toward the periphery of the cells and become spotted.
In the case of injection lasting 20 days or more, the glycogen in cells could hardly be recognized, suggesting that the function of sugar-metabolism as diminishing.
Most of the bile capillaries become smaller. The diameter decreases from 1.0 to 0.85μ, suggesting the decrease of bile secretion.
The decrease of the function of sugar-metabolism and the secretion of bile by cocain-injection suggest to us a decrease in the dissolutions-ability of cocain in the liver-cells.
