As a key component included in IGCC technology, an entrained flow gasifier has been highlighted in recent years, because of its high gasification efficiency and smooth discharge of molten ash. However, the elevated temperature and high pressure in an entrained flow gasifier influence the gasification characteristics of a coal and tend to cause different gasification behavior from conventional gasification conditions. Accordingly, the clarification of char gasification characteristics under conditions similar to those of entrained flow gasification (elevated temperatures and high pressures) is necessary. A fluidized bed reactor also enables the pyrolysis of coal samples and rapid heating rate and uniform temperature profile in bed. These superiorities enables the reliable measurement of the rate under the conditions similar to those in entrain bed gasififiers employed for IGCC. We had already measured of CO2 and H2O gasification rate at 0.1MPa using fluidized bed reactors. In this research, a pressurized fluidized bed reactor was used to obtain the gasification kinetics of a coal char at elevated temperatures and high pressures. The influences of total pressure, partial pressure of gasification agent, the property of coal, etc. were investigated. It was found that the gasification rate of the char increased with the partial pressure of the gasification agent.
