Hybrid Modeling of the Cement Kiln Process in the Mixed Logical Dynamical System

The sintering process of cement clinker (the cement kiln process) is characterized by highly complex and nonlinear process where several reactions such as de carbon dioxide of raw material, cement clinker generation and fuel combustion occur simultaneously and radiative heat transfer is highly dominant. In this paper, the authors presented the hybrid modeling and control of this process in the framework of Mixed Logic Dynamical (MLD) systems. Firstly the authors simplified the detailed model of clinker sintering process because it is too complex to derive MLD model and design hybrid model by neglecting dynamics of gas and coal combustion process, the transition rate of which is much higher than that of material. In the next place the authors linearized piece-wisely the simplified model containing non-linear terms related to reaction rate and radiative heat transfer from kiln shell and converted the totally linerized model into the MLD model in order to design the globally applicable hybrid controller. Consequently, the derived hybrid model gave good performance compared with the conventional locally linearized model by computer simulation in recovering process that largely shifted from general operating point.
