Molecular Characterization of an Acanthamoeba sp. Isolated from a Naturally-infected Oscars Astronotus ocellatus

Abstract

The partial 18S ribosomal DNA sequence of Acanthamoeba sp. AAHRI 0001 isolated from a diseased oscar Astronotus ocellatus were analyzed. As a result, the isolate AAHRI 0001 was classified into clade 4 from phylogenetic tree. Such molecular identification is sufficiently accurate to identify organisms at the species level, in contrast with the more traditional identification by morphological characteristics.
