Abstract
Aging society has faced the difficulty of maintaining community environment or succeeding characteristic culture, especially in rural area. The purpose of this paper is to show the new roles and the conditions of social participation for elderly people in the future sustainable community. We investigate the amount of residents' knowledge of community, the way of showing their social management abilities and the reasons for hiding part of them.
To sustain aging community, it is important to evaluate their latent abilities and to arrange the opportunities for showing them. In addition, elderly people themselves need to recognize their new roles of community management.
