Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of women's enterprise in rural areas in Japan. 9 case studies were conducted focusing on entrepreneurial initiatives undertaken by women of differing age in Chiba prefecture. Results suggest that the awareness concerning, and objectives of enterprises and the role they play within communities differ depending on the age of the businesswomen involved. Furthermore, it was shown that business models changed depending on the age and life stage of the women.
