Verification of effects of improved countermeasures to decrease agricultural damage by wildlife in paddy farming community

Abstract

This paper verified effects of improved countermeasures to decrease agricultural damage caused by wildlife. A paddy farming community in southern Wakayama Prefecture was chosen as a study area, and camera traps were carried out to compare number of mammals which came to farmland. Results of camera traps and agricultural damage records by residents turned out managing abandoned farmland and moving electric fences to natural levee were effective.
